For Mervyn Rees, it all began with a seven year engineering apprenticeship starting in 1949, which at that time, meant working in every department of the Motor Industry. Following that came three interesting years in the Royal Air Force at the request of Her Majesty the Queen.

In 1959, came the business side of Mervyn’s career, take your pick, each of his companies he built from scratch over the years. Starting in Garages, Workshops & Petrol Forecourts, and growing over the years to; Tyre Importers, Wholesalers &
Retailers, Trailer Manufacturer & Importers, Exhibition Units Designer, Commercial & Private Property Developer, Promotion Company, Registered Motor Vehicle Manufacturer (Dragonfly Roadsters), and a Nursing Home which he finally sold and opened his own Health Clinic.
After a major spinal injury in 1976, Mervyn’s interest focused on the health profession and so he retrained becoming a health professional with evolving characteristics. He started in Psychology, gaining diplomas in Psychotherapy & Hypnotherapy, then needing other skills to help himself rehabilitate, he would train as required, qualifying with diplomas as; Fitness Trainer &
Sports Injury & Rehabilitation Therapist, Nutritionist, then The International Institute of Health & Holistic Therapies, Kinesiology and Advanced Bowen Technique Practitioner and is recognized as a highly skilled rehabilitation specialist.
At this point, being certain in his ability to help himself and others around him, he was invited to become an NHS (National Health Service) Independent Provider, as well as a BUPA registered therapist.
In 1988, Mervyn had the honour of being elected a Fellow and became a Fellow of the Institute of the Motor Industry.
Towards retirement, he volunteered to go to, war torn Bosnia Herzegovina, where he used his medical skills in rehabilitation, helping anyone who needed him at his own expense and absolutely free to everyone, off and on over a period of several years. His work in rehabilitation involves him in treating all sections of society, in whatever part of the world he may be, in all sorts of situations; refugee camps, hospitals, clinics, individual homes, or in the ‘great outdoors’, in fact, anywhere at all.
The idea was to run his health clinic until retirement, but having retired, people still come to his door from time to time, with requests for help, which he always willingly gives. Retirement for some can be daunting after such a busy life, but to others like Mervyn, it is an exciting new crossroad.
Having celebrated his 74th birthday in 2009, as usual, his way to relax was to find something new to interest him, and finding the magic of the internet, he could communicate to a far wider horizon. After more than fifty years in industry, and a lifetime of extensive experience, Mervyn is still very busy.
Now taking a sabbatical for a couple years, he indulges his great interest in wildlife and the countryside, his love of boating, angling, painting in watercolours, and writing as well as making whatever in his workshop.
He will gladly give talks on his experiences, as well as talk about various therapies and disciplines he works in, environmentally friendly fuels, your health and the motor industry. In fact, he just loves to talk about whatever is of interest to you.
